Crossroads
Crossroads
The
Philippines is at a point where one mistake might lead to the loss of our
opportunity to thrive. Global superpowers developed after the end of World War
II and they are still here but difference is that they have increased and
choosing which one to side with is difficult but siding with the wrong one
might lead to a devastating outcome for us.
Resilient is defined as “able to
withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions”. In order for us to
become a resilient country we need to start from the basics, solidify our
foundation. For a third world country like us to succeed, we need help from
these superpowers. We need to become allies with them so they can support us
financially and protect us from invaders. In March 2013, Africa was identified
as the world's poorest inhabited continent but because of multiple world powers
helping them and investing in them as
of 2013 Africa was the world's fastest-growing continent at 5.6% a year. The African Development Bank reported
Africa to be the world's second-fastest growing economy, and estimates that
average growth will rebound to 3.4% in 2017. The Philippines could have the
same fate if we side with the correct superpowers. If we even dream of becoming
a modernized country, we need to eradicate all crime, fix our justice system,
and stop all corruption. Just like the Philippines, Africa is resource-rich
continent, China saw this and because they needed resources for their growing
consumption, they helped Africa. I believe one reason why investors do not want
to invest in the Philippines is because Crime and Terrorism reign supreme in
our country. Although we are resource rich, we do not have the capabilities to
mine them and use or sell them. We need help but if our country is unsafe, even
the most powerful superpowers would not risk their money. We need to help our
President eradicate the criminal filth in our country.
The
Philippines is a beautiful country that is filled with a diverse culture and is
resource rich. But because we neglected and took it for granted, it is now something
we cannot boast about. Tourism would be a great way for our economy to thrive
but because of terrorism and unclean places, some people choose not to come
despite the multiple wonders our country possesses. Let us change for the
better and unite as one people and become a more Resilient Philippines.
