Preparing For 'The Big One'
Having nationwide simultaneous
earthquake drills is a good idea. This will help others to know what to do when
an earthquake hits and it checks on how prepared we are for earthquakes. We are
long overdue for a massive earthquake, so we should start preparing for it. It
isn’t a question of will it happen but when?
A lot of people do not take
earthquake drills seriously and most of the time they do not even follow the
proper steps. When an earthquake strikes, we should Duck, Cover and Hold and
when the shaking stops, move to an open space. People will get injured when an
earthquake happens, it is the job of first responders to move quickly and
ensure the safety of the civilians. Many people must work together to prevent
casualties from happening. It is ensuring that this chain of helper’s function
properly even when the biggest of calamities strike that you can say that our
government is ready to help us wherever we are. “The Big One” will pass through
Metro Manila’s dense population According to PhiVolcs (Philippine Institute of
Volcanology and Seismology), the Valley Fault System showed that the big quake
will pass through the dense Metro Manila area and can shake the neighboring
provinces. It will happen sooner or later and when it happens; we must be
prepared.
Even though our first responders
are quick to act we should not get cocky and not follow the proper steps when
an earthquake happens. The first responders cannot save you when you are
already dead. Follow the steps, stay safe, and help others.
